Professional Negligence Claims:
You may be out of pocket because of a mistake by your lawyer. It is a myth
that lawyers will not sue each other. Obviously if the other lawyer is personally
known to us we probably would not, but otherwise a claim against a solicitor
or barrister is the same as a claim against any other professional person.
Our Consultant Lesley Vickers and a partner Maurice Guyer are both members
of the Law Society's 'Negligence Panel'. This means we see for a free initial
interview clients referred by the Office for the Supervision of Solicitors
[see under policy]. We also see or talk to clients over the telephone who
come to us direct, again initially free of charge.
Generally we will only take claims which are worth at least £15,000
sterling starting as legal costs make smaller claims uneconomic (see Fees).
[Claims against doctors and dentists are known as 'Clinical Negligence'
cases. We ourselves do not handle this type of case. We suggest you contact
the Law Society and ask for members of the Clinical Negligence Panel (see
Links)].
