CRIMINAL LAW DEPARTMENT
Information Sheet 8
The Conclusion of your Case |
This particular case in which we have represented
you is now concluded. If we are dealing with other cases on
your behalf, we will continue to deal with those separately.
In respect of this matter, we confirm that any bail conditions
to which you may have been subject will now be at an end.
If you have been found guilty of any charges after a trial,
you may be able to appeal against the conviction. In any case,
whether you have pleaded guilty or found guilty, you may be
able to appeal against your sentence. The solicitor or barrister
who represented you at the hearing will have given advice as
to whether there are any grounds for appeal. Please note that
there is usually a time limit on submitting an appeal - so If
you are not sure of the position, or wish to consider the possibility
of an appeal, you must contact us within two weeks of the conclusion
of your case.
We will now be preparing our bill for this matter. If your case
was covered by Legal Aid, the bill will be paid by the Legal
Aid fund. You should be aware that if you were required by the
court to pay towards the costs of the case the amount which
you will be paying is only a small proportion of the total costs
of your case. Should you have any query concerning the figures
or billing arrangements, please let us know.
Your file will be kept at this office for a minimum period of
three years, after which it will be securely destroyed. This
procedure is automatic with most Magistrates' Court and less
serious Crown Court cases. Files relating to more serious matters
are kept for a longer period. The file is your property, and
you may ask for the papers at any time if you need them. Should
you wish to do this, please let us have a request in writing
and we will then retrieve the file from storage and prepare
the papers for you to collect.
We hope you have been satisfied with the service we have provided
to you at this difficult time. If you have any suggestions or
comments, we would be grateful if you could let us know.
Finally, thank you for instructing us in this case. Should you
require advice on any legal matter again in the future, please
contact us and we would be very pleased to assist.
