Accidents
Accident Compensation:

Q. For what sort of accidents can I claim compensation?

A. Any accident such as
  • A car accident
  • An accident at work
  • Tripping over on the street
  • From faulty goods
Q. Do I need to prove the accident was someone else's fault?

A. Yes you do. For example if you are the driver of a car involved in a crash and the accident was your fault you cannot claim compensation.

Q. What if the accident was half my fault and half someone else's?

A. Then you can claim half the compensation you would have got. Likewise if the accident was two-thirds the other persons fault you can claim two-thirds compensation.

Q. If I have an accident at work and want to sue my employers will they sack me?

A. It could happen but employers have to be insured by law, and it is the Insurers who will be paying you the compensation, not the employers themselves.

Q. How much can I claim?

A. There are no fixed amounts for injuries. The size of your compensation will be worked out by looking at the amounts Judges have awarded in previous cases. They will usually be agreed between the other person's Insurance Company and you and your lawyer. If you cannot agree a Judge will decide.

Q. Can I claim lost earnings?

A. Yes you can.

Q. Can I claim back the cost of travelling to see doctors?

A. Yes, and you can claim for the value of damaged clothing, presciption charges, and other items, even extra heating and lighting bills if you have had to stay at home because of the accident.

Q. What will it cost me?

A. Possibly nothing at all. You will need to discuss this with us as each claim is different.
